Detection of Region of Interest (ROI) in a video leads to more efficient utilization of bandwidth. This is because the ROI can be encoded in a higher quality than the rest of the frame, with little or no degradation of quality from the perception of viewers. Consequently, it is not necessary to uniformly encode the whole video in high quality. This project aims to research and develop region-of-interest detection technique for mobile video applications for real-time video streaming. The system will detect and locate these regions and give different priority depending on the semantic importance, size and the amount of bandwidth available.
