The cane toad is considered by many to be a major invasive pest in Australia. Since its introduction in 1935, the cane toad has spread extensively, and its geographic range has continued to expand. A major challenge is to determine the range limits of the toad and estimate when it will arrive at these limits. One issue that has not yet been well considered is the range of different landscapes that toads cross during their range expansion, and whether this will influence the rate at which the expansion occurs. In this project, you will learn how to make use of spatial data to analyse the rate of spread of the cane toad, and use this in association with landscape data to make predictions about future spread.
