Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.
A variety of potential Honours projects exist and include:
- Understanding the basin evolution and thermal history of a small, possibly Eocene basin near Gladstone that has mature coal near its base. Data include some 2D seismic reflection, a few wells, and field mapping. This project would be in association with Arrow Energy.
- A 3D seismic reflection study to interpret fluvial deposition in a gas field where the gas must have migrated more than 20 km.
- A study of active faulting in the Nankai Trough accretionary wedge using both well data and cores.
- A variety of other projects to investigate depositional environments using 3D seismic reflection data, mostly in association with industry.
