Overview

Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

Business process improvement is an evolutionary method to improve business processes aiming at a continuous and incremental improvement of processes. It takes the existing process (i.e. As-Is process) as a starting point and applies incremental local updates to the process design resulting in gradually refined and improved process (i.e. To-Be process). By focusing on the optimisation and continuous improvement of business processes, organisations can establish a solid competitive advantage by reducing cost, improving quality and efficiency, and enabling adaptation to changing requirements.

This project aims to develop an enhanced process improvement approach which systematically addresses a series of steps to provide objective guidance on process redesign from As-Is to To-Be to achieve better performance. The project will yield an implementation of a preliminary redesign tool that, by taking an As-Is process and a specification of its performance goals, can suggest a sequence of redesign transformations leading to an optimal To-Be process.

Requirements: Essential knowledge in business process modelling and optimisation algorithms/approaches.
