The objective of this project is to develop an analytical simulation model to explore the effects of theatre allocation on performance measures such as theatre utilisation rates. An advanced simulation model will be created using simulation softwares based on a case study of the Princess Alexandra Hospital Operating Theatre. The model aims to replicate the real Operating Theatre system by generating both scheduled and non-scheduled patients and then allocate these to an operating theatre. Theatre utilisation rates, waiting line statistics and the number of cancellations will be measured and compared when the model's parameters change.
