Overview

Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

This project offers a number of topics for potential PhD students. These topics can be pursued theoretically or numerically according to the students' background and directions.

In this project, innovative multi-scalenumerical and stochastic methods are developedfor simulating transport in porous media where macro-/micro-spatial interactions occur on different time scales. These spatial interactions are treated using a multi-resolution finite volume method that couples Fokker-Planck equations at macroscales with variable-order fractional diffusion equations for modelling flow through the microstructure.

Two possible application areas are seawater intrusion in coastal alluvial aquifer systems and timber drying.
