The new photoacatalysts will be developed from titanates by doping, surface grafting because the titanate nanostructure exhibit a high reactivity, ion exchange ability and controllable phase transition under moderate conditions. For instance, trace amount silica has been grafted on surface of single crystal anatase nanorods, and the grafted sample exhibit significant visible light photocatalytic activity. Titanates with layered structure will be used as starting materials. The project aims to develop photocatalysts that can be used for both environment remediation and fine chemical synthesis, and achieve comprehensive understanding on the mechanism of these new photocatalysts.
