Project Summary
Biometrics are measurements of the personally identifiable physical characteristics of a person, such as face, iris, fingerprints or gate. Acquiring biometrics from persons for the purpose of access control currently requires a relatively lengthy process that depends heavily on subject cooperation. The purpose of this project is to set up a biometrics portal. Multiple biometrics will be captured as the subject walks through the portal, rather than requiring that the subject stop and interact with the acquisition system. The key challenges in this project are to interface and partially synchronise multiple capturing devices to a common platform, including several different camera systems (face, iris, depth) and card readers.
Expected outcomes, applications and/or benefits
Experience with system integration.
A biometrics capturing framework that will be used extensively for research data capture and technology demonstrations.
Required student skills/experience
Strong C++ programming skills.
Experience with client-server interfaces over networks will be very beneficial.
