Overview

Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

This project involves developing and simulating models of Chlamydial infection in the genital tract using methods such as stochastic differential equations, partial differential equations and cellular automata. Reviewing biological/medical literature will allow for the development of realistic models. The model(s) will be analysed and solved numerically with a view to generation of hypotheses regarding causes of ascension and persistence. Mathematical topics involved: model development, stochastic differential equations, partial differential equations, cellular automata, simple stochastic descriptions of biological processes, numerical solution of PDEs and SDEs, analysis of PDEs. No prior knowledge of biology is required to complete this project.
