Project Summary

With the advent of smart phones and recent developments in mobile technology it is possible to develop an integrated mobile transit information and payment system (M-TIPS) that can deliver real-time transit information to passengers across multiple modals of transport, and support ticket payment via mobile devices. Such a system could bring potential benefits in letting passengers know exactly the current conditions of the transit network, assisting them making timely and informed decisions about transport choice across multiple modes, facilitate their ticket purchase, as well as helping transit agencies/governments achieve both economic and environmental goals.

Expected outcomes, applications and/or benefits

The project will extend our current system which consists the back-end to enable the mobile transit information systems and payment.

The summer student will be contributing to develop a mobile app prototype that showcases the interaction with users to plan their journey, find their stops, and pay for their trip.

Required student skills/experience
