Project Summary
This project look at various techniques to characterise the biomineralisation and microstructure of coral skeletons. These will include several methods of tissue and mineral charatisation using electron microscopy and light microscopy. This work will contribute to our understanding of coral skeletal growth, taxonomy and biology.
Expected outcomes, applications and/or benefits
Introduction to coral biology & carbonate sedimentology.
Experience in laboratory and on imaging and analytical equipment.
Required student skills/experience
Geoscience or biology background.
