Overview
Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.
Motor vehicles emission is the main source of charged nanoparticles in the urban air. However, very little is known about the nature and mechanism of formation of these particles.
This research project will use novel methods to identify and quantify charged nanoparticles in motor vehicle emissions and in ambient air. The results will significantly increase fundamental knowledge of the role of ion-induced nucleation in the formation of nanoparticles, aid the assessment of the contribution of nanoparticles to global warming and severe human health effects, and facilitate the development of control strategies that are required to protect the community and the environment.
