Overview

Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

Biological literature points to the existence of an extracellular matrix within multicell tumour spheroids. Mathematical modelling of cell migration in tumour spheroids has primarily focussed on passive motion and response to chemical gradients, while modelling of migration due to adhesion gradients (related to the extracellular matrix) has been quite limited. This project would involve reviewing previous modelling of migration in tumour spheroids as well as proposing new improved models (partial differential equation based) of adhesion mediated migration. Mathematical topics involved: model development, partial differential equations, numerical solution of PDEs, analysis of PDEs. No prior knowledge of biology is required to complete this project.
