Overview

Wild rabbits are a major vertebrate pest in Australia. In this project, you will review the literature on wild rabbits, undertake field trips to estimate the density of several wild rabbit populations in South East Queensland, and conduct analyses of the data that has been gathered.

Research Activities

The research activities will include:

  • review literature relating to wild rabbit population dynamics and disease in Australia
  • field work will entail activities such as counts of active warren entrances; estimation of insect density; recording environmental variables
  • analysis to determine any differences in density between warrens and relationships between density and environmental factors.

By the end of the Vacation Research period you will have produced a brief report outlining your findings.
