The differentiation between ephedrine and pseudo ephedrine is of great importance for law enforcement and intelligence purposes. Forensic scientists always face the question: which isomer is present in the sample? The analytical procedures to achieve the true identity of the isomer present is always time consuming and require the use of sophisticated lab techniques. Electro analytical methods are considered one of the simplest and most reliable methods that can be used in enantioselective analysis of drugs. Enantioselective electrodes in specific are capable of identifying the nature of the enantiomers in one direct measurement. This project is aimed at developing enantioselective electrodes that are capable of detecting low concentrations of each isomer within forensic samples in short time frame and with minimum sample pretreatment procedures.
