Overview
Ecologists wish to study the movement and bellowing of koalas. This project involves the research and design of koala collars using microcontrollers (arduino), GPS units, accelerometers and vibration sensors/microphones. This project would suit a student interested in hardware, sensors and low level software. The project will involve working with koala ecologists.
Research activities
The research activities are to:
- investigate and prototype arduino based koala collar
- build a prototype and deploy on koalas (ecologists will manage the animals!)
- collect and analyse data from the collar.
Expected outcomes
The expected outcomes are:
- a prototype collar design
- a list of recommendations for collar
- a short report – possible basis for a conference paper.

The project duration is 8 weeks.
