Overview

Topic status: In progress

Overview

Soil hydrological data is being gathered by monitoring equipment at the SERF property for current and future hydrological modelling projects. There is a continuing project to characterise the soil types and some relevant attributes for soil hydrological processes. More survey and synthesis of soil attribute data is required to calibrate and refine the hydrological models.

Research activities

Research assistance is required for gathering specific soil attribute data at SERF (field-work), based on the prior soil survey there. A comprehensive database of soil factors and terrain factors needs to be developed to incorporate this data and make it accessible also for GIS (spatial modelling) use and for the hydrological model being used (data familiarity and manipulation, interpretation and modification). Soil samples will need to be analysed in the laboratory for a small range of both physical and chemical attributes (particle size, pH, EC, organic C, exchangeable cations).

Expected outcomes

Further soil samples for analysis and archive. Further field soil data from augers, cores and soil pits. Suite of analytical data from sampled soils. Accurate and useable data base of soil parameters for hydrological modelling and modified for spatial analysis also. Creation of a 3D spatial model of selected soil parameters relating to hydrological monitoring sites.
