'Green' or sustainable office buildings are lauded as employing strategies that are energy efficient and beneficial to occupant health and well-being. However with regards to daylighting strategies in these buildings, there is very little empirical evidence to suggest that the design targets set for excellence can assure either energy savings or a high-quality visual environment for occupants.
The objectives of this project are to conduct quantitative and qualitative post-occupancy review of the existing metrics for daylighting design in green buildings (particularly in tropical and subtropical regions), and to use this information to fomrulate and validate innovative daylighting metrics that can reliably indicate actual performance. included in this work will be the development of practical tools and techniques to assess daylighting design strategies.
