The Microsoft QUT eResearch centre focuses on utilizing information technology to aid in scientific research. A sensor network for environmental monitoring has been established. While huge amount of data has been collected, processing and mining those data is challenging. One approach to this is to apply existing high performance computing, data management and analysis solutions to specific scientific challenges and solve the new problems that will arise. A systematic investigation on the ways for effective data analysis and pattern recognition will be conducted.
