Overview

Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

The proposed study will systematically evaluate a range of protocols used to determine chromosome number in plants. Information from chromosome counts can be informative in determining species boundaries, hybridisation events and potential for invasiveness.

The proposed project will determine the number of chromosomes using various techniques, with the aim to develop and optimise standardised methodology for staining and counting chromosomes from root tips and flower buds.

This project will enable a student to develop essential techniques and skills in plant anatomy, particularly in the areas of histology.
