Project Summary

This project will investigate the occurance of epiphyte communities at Cleveland Point. Calcifying organisms such bryozaons, foraminifera and algae contribute signicantly to carbonate mud production. Similar studies have focussed on the carbonate supply from similar settings in temperate waters and a comparison to such in the sub tropical waters of SE Queensland would add subtantially to the understanding of such carbonate factories. These carbonate factories are an essential part of the sediment supply to the local environment and essential for seagrass development and the heterotrophic food chain.
