Overview

Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

Little is known of the interaction of the various kinds of inks used in digital printing with the common substrates such as paper and polymer-based materials. In this project microspectroscopic techniques of Raman and infrared will be used to throw light on the problem. While microRaman spectroscopy has excellent lateral resolution, IR is much worse. It is likely that IR will be highly useful for the study, so the project will most probably involve visits to the Australian Synchrotron in Victoria because the use of synchrotron light provides the highest lateral resolution possible in IR microspectroscopy.
