Intellectual property and innovation law
Overview
Members of our program conduct research into significant issues surrounding the emerging digital, networked information and communications infrastructure. These issues impact on virtually every aspect of commercial, cultural and civic life and government activity.
Our research includes law, practice, theory and policy relating to:
- National and international intellectual property law, with a focus on:
- copyright
- patents
- trade marks
- domain names
- design.
- Emerging areas of IP law, relating to:
- digital and online environments
- biotechnology
- nanotechnology.
- IP law in the Asia-Pacific region, with a particular focus on national laws and bilateral, regional and multilateral agreements on IP to support the growth of developing countries.
- Indigenous law, with a focus on the protection of indigenous traditional knowledge and genetic resources.
- Models of IP management and licensing, including:
- legal and policy frameworks for access to publicly funded research results, public sector information and data, educational resources and cultural and archival materials
- the use of open source software and open content licensing models
- the Creative Commons (CC) licensing model in Australia and worldwide
- Open Access publication and business models.
- Emerging models of innovation and collaboration.
- The relationship between IP, innovation and standards.
- Internet and e-commerce law.
- Privacy.
