FAQs

How do I get started?

If you are interested in applying for a fellowship at QUT, you must contact the relevant Faculty Research Office to confirm that they are willing to host your fellowship. At this point, you will be able to discuss the intellectual and physical environment at QUT and the type of project you are interested in undertaking. If you are unable to identify the relevant Faculty, please email vcfships@qut.edu.au.

Am I required to teach?

The Vice-Chancellor's fellowships are typically research-only positions. Fellows may teach through negotiation with their supervisor or Head of School provided there is no impact on their fellowship.

Am I required to supervise?

Fellows are encouraged to supervise higher degree research students in their discipline area or field of specialty.

Am I able to take recreation leave?

Typically, fellows are entitled to four weeks of recreation leave per annum.

Am I entitled to maternity leave?

The Australian Research Council (ARC) will provide up to 14 weeks paid maternity leave. If you have been at QUT for 12 months or longer, your entitlement will increase to 26 weeks. This period of time will be added to your fellowship. Two weeks paid partner or parental leave is also available at the time of birth.

Am I permitted to have another job in addition to my fellowship?

Fellows are not permitted to accept additional appointments or remuneration without the prior written agreement of QUT and the Australian Research Council (ARC).

How do I deal with visa requirements?

Successful applicants who do not hold a permanent residency visa will be sponsored by QUT. Information will be provided on visa requirements when the Scheme opens for applications in 2010.
