Raise your stock

Delaying postgrad study by arguing it's expensive, disregards the fact it's also one of the most bankable blue-chip investments in your future.

A little short-term belt-tightening can be quickly offset by significantly increased earning potential. Many people find their earning power snowballs after gaining postgraduate qualifications. They're more readily considered for promotions, special projects, and new opportunities. Their new-found knowledge marks them as more valuable. And they're seen by employers as being more dedicated to their careers. Bigger rewards quite naturally follow.

That said, the satisfaction of doing better at something new, or something you're passionate about, can be just as rewarding as the potential financial gains.

If, however, you'd like a little financial help up-front to get you started, QUT can help with professional advice, and information on fees and financial assistance in all its forms. Feel free to look around.

Salary Statisfaction

State of play. The latest Australian Graduate Survey figures from Graduate Careers Australia (GCA) reveal that the median salary for a new postgraduate is $18,000 higher than equivalent bachelor degree graduates.

The GCA website, Gradsonline, lists the median salaries for a range of postgraduate and undergraduate qualifications. If you'd like to feel even better about your decision to pursue further study and get an indication of what you could be earning with a postgrad qualification under your belt.

*Graduate Careers Australia (GCA) is an authority on graduate employment issues in Australia; a peak body with representatives from universities, government and recruitment organisations.

Tax deductibility

Incentives. You'll find that the fees for postgrad study may be tax deductible if your field of study is directly related to your current career. Find out more about your eligibility.

Employer subsidies

A good investment. Many employers recognise the value in supporting their staff in their pursuit of postgrad qualifications. Some contribute financially; others by approving additional time off work for study or restructuring an employee's hours. It's simply good business to back employees who show such a high level of commitment to their careers.

Public sector bodies often have a clearly stated position on support for postgrad students. However, some organisations don't actively make their position known on the issue, so it's wise to ask.
