QUT has joined the Media Centre for Education Research Australia to deliver the latest information about education research.

The not-for-profit is an independent centre to better inform public debate on major issues within the education sector and improve links between the public and the educational academic community.

MCERA CEO Cathie Brown said she was proud to announce QUT’s sponsorship which builds on the organisation’s links with other universities across Australia.

“With QUT’s support, MCERA can continue to promote education research in the media to help ensure that the public’s understanding about education issues improves which in turn will help to improve education in Australia,” Ms Brown said.

QUT Faculty of Education Executive Dean Professor Carol Nicoll said action was needed to ensure research on education was promoted in the media to counter misconceptions and opinions often presented as facts.

“We will have a better education system in Australia if we have a community well informed about education issues and this will come about if we make them knowledgeable about the latest education," Professor Nicoll said.

“QUT is proud to be the first university in Queensland to support MCERA as an investment in Australia’s education future.

“We look forward to more of our academics’ research being promoted in the mainstream media to help inform the community about education issues.”

Other universities are encouraged to support MCERA also through contacting cathie.brown@mcera.org.au

Academics are invited to register with MCERA so that we can ensure the media have ready access to authoritative, research-backed experts via www.mcera.org.au/education
