Humphrey starts as QUT’s new Executive Dean of Law

13 February 2013

Leading commercial lawyer John Humphrey has started work at QUT as the university's new Executive Dean of Law.

Professor Humphrey was formerly a senior partner and deputy chairman at King & Wood Mallesons, where he specialised in mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets.

He is also a member of the Takeovers Panel - Australia's peak body for resolving disputes over takeover bids.

As Executive Dean of Law, Professor Humphrey now oversees about 5000 students and 150 staff across QUT's Faculty of Law, which includes the School of Law and School of Justice.

He said he was pleased to join a "fantastic team" and take up an exciting new challenge.

"I am delighted to have this opportunity to contribute to the next stage of development for QUT and the Faculty of Law," he said.

"In 2013 our academic and professional staff will continue to advance research and educate the next generation of law and justice professionals.

"This year will also include annual faculty events such as the Law and Justice Comedy Debate to raise money for Law Founders' Scholars and the WA Lee Equity Lecture in the Supreme Court of Queensland."

The QUT School of Law was established in 1976, and the School of Justice opened in 1991. Both are based at the university's Gardens Point campus.

The Faculty of Law is also home to a Legal Practice unit and two new research centres - the Health Law Research Centre and the Crime and Justice Research Centre.
