Crime Club

The Crime club is an innovative crime solving activity developed in house to provide a real-world training experience for law and justice students.

Students gather evidence, prepare a brief, and the top two teams prosecute a suspect in court. This semester-long simulatated experience started in 2012, and will run again in 2013.

Real world experience

Teams are assigned a police officer or solicitor to be their mentor. Over a semester, the teams work to piece together clues and gather evidence to try to solve the mock crime by:

  • interviewing suspects under the supervision of police
  • gathering forensic data
  • preparing an investigative strategy
  • delivering an intelligence briefing.

Teams are eliminated throughout the semester, leaving the top two teams the opportunity to present their case in an actual Supreme Court.

In 2012, our students had unprecedented access to the Banco Court for the trial finale, with the Queensland Attorney General attending to offer his support to the pioneering activity.
