Australian words and phrases
While you're living and studying in Brisbane, you might hear some Australian slang terms.
- Arvo: afternoon
- Aussie: Australian
- Bloke: man, guy
- Bludge: (noun) something easy that requires little effort; (verb) to be lazy
- Bush: the Outback, the country, anywhere that isn't in town
- Esky: large, insulated food and drink container, ideal for picnics and barbecues
- Footy: football
- Heaps: lots, a lot
- Lollies: sweets, candy
- Loo: toilet
- Servo: petrol station
- Shout: taking a turn to buy something, usually a round of drinks
- She'll be right: everything will be okay
- Thongs: cheap rubber sandals
- Togs: swimsuit
