Research areas

Inspired by the UNESCO vision of education for all, our research seeks to improve learning for children, youth and adults.

Curriculum and pedagogy

Our research in this area encompasses mathematics, science, and literacy education as well as assessment and learning.

Early childhood

Our researchers tackle a variety of complex issues affecting young children, including early years' literacy and numeracy, role of child care and playgroup programs, sustainability education, and early childhood education policy and practice.

Inclusive and global education

Diversity and social inclusion are at the heart our research which focuses on the challenges facing specific cohorts of students, including Indigenous, refugee, socially disadvantaged, students with disabilities and gifted students. Also included is a study of the characteristics of effective child sexual abuse prevention programs.

Tertiary, vocational and work-based learning

We recognise that post-secondary education is paramount to strengthening Australia’s social and economic fabric. Our researchers study issues that affect learning in tertiary, vocational and workplace education.
