Will I be a qualified teacher or childcare worker?

Teacher registration

If you want to teach in Queensland schools you must be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).

Your course details will specify whether your course meets the requirements for registration as a teacher in Queensland.

You start your career with provisional registration. You'll usually be granted full registration after one year of full-time classroom practice (or the part-time equivalent) if you meet the required professional standards.

Literacy assessment

Bachelor of Education students (including double degree students) must satisfactorily complete Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) literacy standards assessment criteria by the end of their third year in order to meet course and QCT professional accreditation requirements.

You can attempt these modules as many times as you need to during the first three years of your program. If you don't attain satisfactory results during your first year, we can help you improve your literacy skills. If your results are still unsatisfactory at the end of your third year, we may recommend that you exit early from the four-year degree.

Childcare approved qualifications

Your course details will specify whether your course is:

  • an approved childcare qualification with The Department of Education, Training and Employment (Office for Early Childhood and Care)
  • accredited by the New South Wales Department of Community Services for employment in children's services.

Can I work overseas or interstate?

Many of our degrees are recognised in other states or countries. Check your course details to find out if your course is recognised nationally or internationally.

In some locations you'll have to meet other requirements as well.

If you want to teach outside Queensland, you should check the registration requirements in the state or country you want to teach in.
