Considering studying education?
Where can I work with an education degree from QUT?
Our degrees aren't just for the classroom.
Our innovative and forward-looking courses cover a wide range of specialist areas that lead you to jobs in:
- schools
- early childhood settings
- community and industry learning places.
Your teaching qualification can also lead to a career in educational management.
Your course details will specify whether your course meets the requirements for registration as a teacher or childcare worker.

Which course is right for me?
Which course is right for you depends on:
- your previous study and work experience
- whether you're looking to start, change or enhance your career in education.
Which areas can I specialise in?
We offer specialist courses whether you want to work in early childhood, primary schools or secondary schools.
For some courses, you can choose which subject areas you want to teach.

Which campus can I study at?
We deliver courses at our Kelvin Grove and Caboolture campuses, and online. Some units in specific courses are offered at our Gardens Point campus.
For some courses, you can choose how and where you want to study. But most of our courses, or specialisations within courses, are offered only in certain ways.
Check the course details to find out how our courses are delivered.
Will I do field experience in real schools?
You'll complete field experience placements as part of most of our courses.
Field experience placements give you the opportunity to work in real school classrooms or early childhood settings, supervised by practising professional educators.

Do I need a blue card?
You must have a criminal history check and be issued with a blue card before you can participate in:
- field experience in a school or centre
- activities in any unit which may involve contact with children or young people (under 18 years).
If you're a registered Queensland teacher or serving Queensland police officer, you don't need a blue card, but you must apply for an exemption card.
Having a blue card means that you're eligible to work in the areas of child-related work covered by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act (2000).
How do I get a blue card?
When you're accepted into one of our courses, we'll give you more information about how to apply for a blue card.
You should apply for your blue card as soon as you're accepted into your course because it can take a while to process your application.
What special programs does QUT offer?
Work with people from other cultures: Patches program
As a teacher, you'll interact with students from variety of backgrounds and cultures. Our Patches Program gives you experience working with people from other cultures.
The program pairs domestic and international students on a series of academic and social activities. You'll learn more about your partners' cultures and their different methods of learning, and intercultural and non-verbal communication.
Help settling in for early childhood students: MATES program
We know the first year of university can be exciting but daunting for many students.
Our MATES (Mentors Assisting Transition Education Students) program helps first-year undergraduate early childhood students to adjust to university life.
Experienced students help new students with prioritising workloads, time management, and understanding how to make the most of university life.
Mentoring for early childhood students studying externally: GEMS program
We know that studying externally is a big change for many students.
As part of our GEMS (Great External Mentor Support) program, continuing students volunteer as peer mentors, to help new external students adjust to university study.
Support for primary degree students: VIP program
Our VIP (Very Insightful Peer) program supports first-year primary degree students who are new to university.
Primary degree students in their second, third and fourth years (VIPs) attend orientation day, where they show first-year students around the campus and give their insights into university life.
VIPs are available throughout the year to help first-years navigate their way around university processes and procedures.
