QUTeach at Redcliffe
Young people from rural and remote regions, low socio-economic backgrounds and indigenous young people are significantly under-represented at universities.
QUTeach@Redcliffe widens opportunities for high school students to attend university. We collaborate with five state high schools on Redcliffe Peninsula to teach first-year university subjects to students doing their Queensland Senior Certificate. We also promote teaching as a career through this program.
QUTeach@Redcliffe students dedicate two afternoons a week after school to undertake the studies and work on assignments. We hold classes at the Redcliffe State High School library. Students have access to the same resources as QUT university students.
Lectures are delivered either by visiting QUT Faculty of Education lecturers, or they are recorded at QUT and students watch the videos of the lecture. The students also attend one lecture each semester at the Caboolture and Kelvin Grove campuses to experience university first-hand. Students are assessed the same way as first-year university students.
The first group of students graduated from the program in 2009 and gained entry to a QUT education degree of their choice. Current QUTeach@Redcliffe students commenced in early 2011 and will graduate in late 2012.
We also award START QUT scholarships to students in the program.
