Exceptional Teachers for Disadvantaged Schools

Our Exceptional Teachers for Disadvantaged Schools project targets educational disadvantage in low socio-economic areas by training high-achieving student teachers for positions in disadvantaged schools.

We equip students with extra theory and practical skills for teaching in schools where they can make the most difference. The project involves customised curriculum, active mentoring and work integrated learning placements in schools in urban and regional locations.

The program is now in its second year. So far, 24 student teachers have completed work placements in regional and remote schools from Thursday Island in Queensland's north, to Caboolture, Beenleigh and Redbank Plains in South-East Queensland.

We select students for the program based on their high grade point average (GPA) and commitment to ending educational disadvantage.
