Young people engaging different forms of texts and media technology is of increasing interest for researchers. Dr. Jocson's presentation offers a glimpse of youth literacies through poetry and media production. At the center of analysis are opportunities for youth to form social alliances that further shape their academic and career paths.

Korina Jocson is Assistant Professor of Education in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis (Missouri, USA). Her areas of interest include literacy, youth culture, and urban education. Central to her research are sociocultural approaches in examining literacies and pedagogies across contexts. For over a decade, Jocson has collaborated with university programs, schools, and community-based organizations to promote literacy learning and development among nondominant youth. She is the author of Youth Poets: Empowering Literacies In and Out of Schools (2008) and editor of Cultural Transformations: Youth and Pedagogies of Possibility (in press).
