Our staff and researchers

Prof Terry Flew has been appointed by the Australian Research Council (ARC) to the Research Evaluation Committee for Cluster 2: Humanities and Creative Arts in the second Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) evaluation round. Prof Flew has recently completed a secondment to the Australian Law Reform Commission where he chaired the National Classifications Review.

Distinguished Prof Stuart Cunningham has been appointed as a member of the Cooperative Research Centres’ (CRC) Committee (2012 – 2017).  D/Prof Cunningham is also the Director of Screen Queensland, a member of the Library Board of Queensland, the National Cultural Policy Reference Group, and the New South Wales Creative Industries Task Force.  He is an invited member on the Advisory Boards for a number of other Australian university research centres and institutes.

Prof Helen Klaebe has been awarded a Smithsonian Fellowship to explore ways to measure the impact of oral history and digital story telling.

Donna Hancox, winner, Leverhulme Trust Visiting Fellowship to work for 9 months at Bath Spa University.   Veruna Publishers Fellowship.

Sara Holland-Batt, Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship to study Master of Fine Arts in poetry at New York University, Australia Council Literature Residency (Rome), Asialink Literature Residence (Japan), Act Judith Wright Prize, FAW Anne elder Award, Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize, Dorothy Hewett Fellowship.

The work of three staff members, Marisa Lindquist, Ian Weir, and Kathi Holt-Damant were selected by the curators of “Formations” and the Australian institute of Architects to represent Innovation in Architectural Practice at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale.

Keith Armstrong has received a number of prestigious Australia Council grants, including ArtLab – Inter-Arts awards and his installations have been exhibited in Japan, China, Europe, USA and across Australia.

Amanda Gearing’s Masters graduate and PhD student.  Masters creative practice output, a book “The Torrent” has been published by UQ Press and she was an award finalist for the Walkley Freelance Journalist of the Year Award for her work reporting the Toowoomba floods.

Phoebe Hart’s PhD creative practice output, a film “Orchids: My intersex adventure” has been shown on ABC in Australia and Showtime throughout the USA.  She has been awarded Best Direction of a documentary (Stand Alone Category) at the 2012 Australian Directors Guilds Awards, and “Orchids” also won the Audience Award at the Divergenti Film Festival, Italy and a Gold Kahuna Award at the Honolulu Film Awards, USA.

Kate Cantrell, PhD student.  National Grand finalist, The Australia and New Zealand Three Minute Thesis Competition, Runner Up, John Marsden Writing prize for Young Australians, Winner, The Bradt/Independent on Sunday Travel Writing Competition, Winner, Perilous Adventures Short Story Competition, Winner, 12 Word Story Slam, Short Listed Queensland State Library Young Writer’s Award.
