Creative Data Visualisation at QUT Creative Industries Precinct
Visitors can discover creative ways of interacting with data at The Block's upcoming exhibition Datascape, from 16 to 26 April.
The computer age has triggered a seemingly endless stream of data; lists of words and numbers that record the world around us through various lenses.
Datascape takes you on a tour of this dynamic artistic field where data itself is the art medium, presenting a range of works that use data as the building blocks for creative practice through both analogue and digital portals.
From war casualty statistics to weather, crowdsourcing and social media-generated data, the artists translate labyrinths of seemingly homogenous datasets into more tangible, creative representations that express human interests and movements,
"The artists are going beyond location-based business data mapping, making datasets more compelling by allowing us to understand them in a distinctly visual, intimate context." said Rachael Parsons, Exhibitions Officer, QUT Creative Industries Precinct.
"As technology progresses, we are spending more and more time on computers and an exponential amount of sociological data is being collected. Datascape looks at how we are interacting with the world around us, how we are preserving digital information and the digital relics that we are creating."
Datascape is presented by QUT Creative Industries Precinct.
