Creative education

The Faculty's academic programs include some of the highest-demand undergraduate courses at QUT. Specialist degrees across a range of creative study areas include the Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Entertainment Industries, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Journalism and Bachelor of Media and Communication degrees. Unique to QUT is the Bachelor of Creative Industries, which equips graduates with diverse knowledge, creativity and professional skills across a range of industries and practice.

Industry connections

Located in the Creative Industries Precinct, alongside research centres and creative enterprises, the QUT Creative Industries Faculty is not only training the creative workforce, but working with industry and government to grow the sector. Our connections to industry and the leading-edge research we conduct tell us that creativity has never been more valued by employers. As the benefits of creativity are recognised by multinational businesses, creative talents are increasingly in demand in a range of industries - not just traditional cultural institutions.

Research partnerships

Research at the Creative Industries Faculty is enhanced through our association with the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation (CCI). The Creative Industries Faculty is also the lead agency in the Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation (iCi), a multi-faculty research institute at QUT.

Welcome to QUT's Creative Industries Faculty.

We invite you to join with us in shaping the future of the creative professions through our specialisations in the arts, media and design fields and in building creative communities through world-leading research, consultancies and partnerships.

Staff and students of the Faculty are noted for pushing disciplinary boundaries and many are producing bold experimental work in the digital and live domains. Award winning teachers and courses that offer challenging practical experiences, support the development of Creative Industries students to become global artists, communicators and cultural experts. Our graduates are building prominent careers around the world.

The Faculty attracts renowned researchers and artists. Our success in research provides unique opportunities for students to interact with inspiring thought leaders in the field, particularly through our co-location with high impact research centres including the ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation (CCI).

Emphasising practice-led research has resulted in national and international recognition for the Faculty. In addition, our research in language, communication and culture has been rated Australia's best and well above world standard in the 2010 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative results. QUT is changing and evolving the modes of creative communication through its research.

Our focus on creative enterprise draws on a cluster of inventive start-up businesses at Kelvin Grove campus and the unique Creative Industries Precinct, which is Australia's first incubator for experimentation and commercial development in the creative industries. The QUT and Queensland Government's $65 million infrastructure investment provides unique opportunities for collaboration between researchers, educators, students and industry.

Creativity is no longer seen as a luxury. It's an economic and cultural imperative valued by individuals, society and employers. The arts, media and design are vital components of local and global communities and are central to the development of fulfilling citizenship and social innovation. This makes it an exciting time to embark on or further a creative career or build creative business ideas. If you have the passion and skills and want to extend your horizons then consider the opportunities on offer here at QUT's Creative Industries Faculty.
