Induction and orientation
Where is the QUT Business School located?
Our street address is 2 George Street, Brisbane City.
The Research Support Office is located on the 7th level of Z block.
Our four schools are:
- The School of Economics and Finance, located on level 8 of Z block
- The School of Management, located on level 9 of Z block
- The School of Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations (AMPR), located on level 10 of Z block
- The School of Accountancy, located on level 3 of B block.
Student desk space
Desk space is available in two large student rooms on the 7th level of Z block.
We usually allocate these spaces to Management and AMPR students who can't be housed in their schools.
Usually the Schools of Economics and Finance, and Accountancy house their students in their schools, particularly since Accountancy is in another building.
If you are a full-time Accountancy or Economics and Finance student and you plan to work at QUT rather than at home, contact your school office regarding a work station. If, after arriving at QUT, you require desk space on the 7th level of Z block, please contact our office via email on bus.research@qut.edu.au.
If you reserve a desk, you must be:
- enrolled on a full-time basis
- using the desk on a full-time basis.
If you require keys to pedestal cabinets or filing cabinets connected to a work space on the 7th level of Z block, or if there is anything amiss with your work area, please direct your queries to bus.research@qut.edu.au.
Student lockers
There are lockers within room Z701 or outside room Z718. Email Emma Baldwyn on e.baldwyn@qut.edu.au if you'd like to use a locker.
Swipe access to Z block and rooms Z701 and Z718
Try swiping your student card first, as sometimes students are allocated access centrally when they enrol.
If you don't have access, the Research Support Office can usually organise swipe access to the rooms that they manage.
Information technology (IT) problems
You'll receive details about your IT access when you get official confirmation of your enrolment. All student work spaces on the 7th level of Z block are equipped with new personal computers. If you have any difficulty, please email the IT Helpdesk for assistance. Research Support Office staff do not have IT expertise.
Student email account
It is very important that you read the emails sent to your student email account as all QUT correspondence will be sent to this account.
If you don't want to check this mailbox on a regular basis, please forward your student account to an account that you will be checking regularly.
Ensure that your inbox does not become full and is capable of receiving mail. Don't underestimate the importance of regularly checking your student email account.
Student log-in
You must be logged in under your student account to access student on-line systems.
If you are logged in as a staff member, it's often not possible to access the relevant student systems.
If you are housed on the 7th level of Z block you can check the incoming mail box located in our office.
Alternatively, please check with your school, as your mail will go there if your school address has been used.
You may send internal (i.e. QUT) mail though our office. You may send mail outside of QUT through our office only if it is fully stamped.
Printing, copying and stationery
If the Research Support Office has allocated you a desk on the 7th level of Z block, your school will provide all resources, including:
- printing
- copying
- stationery.
If you are working in one of the two rooms on the 7th level of Z block, there is a copier-printer in each room.
If you don't have a printing allocation to swipe and activate copiers or printers, please go to your school office to request this. The Research Support Office doesn't manage allocations for student copiers/printers.
Telephones and telephoning
If the Research Support Office has allocated you a desk on the 7th level of Z block, you can only make local telephone calls from the desk.
You can personalise the desk's telephone while the work station is yours. When you stop using the work space, you must re-set the telephone so that the password is the same as the telephone's extension number. This will give the next person easy access to the telephone.
Rooms Z701 and Z718 are quiet work rooms. You should make and receive personal or loud telephone calls away from these rooms.
If you need telephone access for survey or interview work that forms part of the thesis project, please contact bus.research@qut.edu.au.
