Thesis copies

At submission time, you must submit three copies of the thesis in spiral binding to the Research Support Office. You are responsible for the printing of the thesis copies. Be sure to sign each copy of the statement of originality page within the thesis.

Compact disk

You must provide a CD containing the thesis in PDF format.

Lodgement of thesis for examination

You and the principal supervisor must complete and sign the Lodgement of Thesis for Examination form.

It's important that both you and the supervisor tick the boxes on this form. The supervisor's signing of this form indicates that the thesis is ready for examination.

For PhD students

The supervisor's signature on the lodgement form also indicates that the final seminar panel's requests for revisions have been addressed. Unless the final seminar panel's requests were very minor, a statement of how the thesis has been changed to address the final seminar panel's concerns should also be submitted.

Request for final thesis submission

You and the principal supervisor should complete and sign the Request for Final Thesis Submission form. It is important that both you and the supervisor tick the boxes on this form. The supervisor's signing of this form indicates that you have addressed the examiners’ concerns, and the degree should be awarded.

Statement of changes

All students must provide a statement of how the thesis has been revised to accommodate the examiners’ requirements. You must use the form at the Research Students Centre website.

Graduation Citation

All students must provide a 150-word Graduation Citation. Guidelines for writing the citation are available within the Request for Submission of the Final Thesis form.

Compact disk

You must provide a CD containing:

  • the final thesis in PDF format
  • the statement of changes
  • a Graduation Citation.

You should provide all this to Carol O’Brien (for PhD students) or Dennis O’Connell (for BS92 students).

Permanent bindings

QUT no longer requires hard copy theses, although your supervisors should be offered a stiff-cover permanently bound thesis copy. It is your responsibility to liaise with your supervisory team regarding thesis copies for them.

Scholarship holders

You may have provision within your scholarship for printing and binding your thesis. Students who have received a scholarship with this provision (see scholarship rules) should print and bind their final copies, pay for them, and then seek reimbursement from Research Scholarships, Research Students Centre. You will need sufficient copies for your supervisors (if they want hard copies) and yourself. Hard-bound copies are no longer required by QUT. You should check with your supervisors to see if they want a hard-bound copy.

Non-scholarship holders

If you have not held a scholarship, or your scholarship does not have provision for thesis production, then the Research Support Office will arrange for permanent binding (but not printing) of up to three copies, so long as you have sufficient funds left in your student allocation. You can check the balance of your student funding allocation with the Research Support Office. Assuming funds are available, you should then print all the copies for binding. The Research Support Office does not print these for you.

If you have sufficient funds, please bring to the Research Support Office up to three copies for permanent binding. If you do not have sufficient funds, permanent bindings cost approximately $35 per copy. The Research Support Office can arrange bindings at your expense. If you are submitting from overseas or out of town, you should both print and bind the theses yourself, and mail the copies to your supervisors, if they want them.
