Accounting in high schools

This program allows high school students to gain credit towards a business degree by completing an accounting unit as part of first-semester Year 12 study.

Accounting is a core unit in all QUT Bachelor of Business degrees. Through the program students undertake BSB110 Accounting to gain a unit credit toward future QUT business studies.

The program has many benefits for the students:

  • pay no fees - we cover your tuition fees
  • free access to QUT services - you are officially a QUT student with a student ID card
  • get a taste for university life - attend lectures from prominent accounting and business professionals, complete the same assessment as first-year students
  • be supported - teachers offer help and encouragement
  • gain credit - complete a unit credit toward your future QUT business studies
  • guarantee your entry into uni - when you successfully complete another START QUT unit.

Students are officially QUT students and are given a student card. Assessment is the same as for other first-year QUT students - all sit mid-semester and final exams. On successful completion, students have a first-year QUT unit on their academic record. This may be used as part of their future university studies.

Students in 4th term of Year 11 studying accounting may enrol. Students who have achieved VHAs or HAs in their high school accounting subject are nominated by their teacher for participation in this program.

The Accounting in High Schools program is part of START QUT. If students successfully complete two START QUT units, they qualify for selected QUT courses. Learn more about START QUT.

If you're interested in nominating a student, please contact our Accounting in High Schools Program.
