QUT professor appointed to national charities commission
A QUT professor has been appointed to a new national commission advisory board which will advise the federal government on charities and the not-for-profit sector.
Professor Myles McGregor-Lowndes has been appointed to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) Advisory Board.
His appointment which will run for three years was announced today by Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury.
Professor McGregor-Lowndes is the director of The Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Non-Profit Studies based at QUT.
As a member of the advisory board he will provide advice and make recommendations around the delivery of an effective regulatory framework for charities and the not-for-profit (NFP) sector.
Professor McGregor-Lowndes said he looked forward to playing an active role on the advisory board, which would focus particularly on the needs of charities and the community.
"As a board member I hope to provide advice on the streamlining of regulation and the need to make information on registration requirements readily available to charities and other NFP organisations," he said.
"I look forward to working with like-minded colleagues and am sure that as a team we can put forward workable solutions to the challenges posed to us by the Commissioner and the community."
Professor McGregor-Lowndes has a long-standing association with the NFP sector having been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2003 for providing education and support in legal, financial and administrative matters to nonprofit organisations.
He has written extensively about nonprofit tax and regulation and is a founding member of the Australian Taxation Office Charities Consultative Committee.
