Psychology and Counselling Clinic
QUT Health Clinics - Psychology & Counselling provides affordable, professional Psychology, Family Therapy and Counselling services for the general public, including children, and staff and students of QUT.
Therapists are QUT postgraduate students in Clinical Psychology and Educational and Developmental psychology and have provisional registration as Psychologists. The supervisory staff are experienced Psychologists and eligible for membership of the Australian Psychological Society.
The Clinic works in partnership with Deaf Children Australia to provide a reflecting team service to people involved in the Deaf community. Interpreters are engaged as required.
Sessions are provided on both an individual one-on-one basis and through group therapy including couples and families. Service are offered in a specially designed suite of rooms.
Treatment is available for a range of issues:
- Depression
- Anxiety, panic attacks and phobias
- Sexual difficulties
- Stress, trauma and psychological injury
- Relationship issues
- Employment difficulties
- Anger management
- Grief and bereavement
- Eating problems and addictive behaviours
- Parenting
- Adjustment to medical conditions
In addition, problems that may be specific to children and adolescents include:
- Behavioural problems
- Learning difficulties
- Excessive worry
- Separation anxiety
- Sleeping problems
- Family interaction difficulties
- Eating problems
- Aspergers disorder and ASD
- ADHD
- Concentration and study skills
- Bullying
QUT Health Clinics - Psychology & Counselling provides a range of psychological assessments of intelligence, memory, learning difficulties and personality in children, adolescents and adults.
Counselling and Family Therapy services provide therapy which focuses on people's strengths and resources to deal with issues which are impacting on the effective functioning of people in their lives. The team-based process engages counsellors and clients in the discovery of possibilities, change, new ideas and strategies for coping.
No referral is necessary to attend the clinic.
Please note this is a separate service to the Counselling Service offered free of charge to QUT Students by the QUT Student Support Services Department.
Cost
One-hour counselling appointment: $40 for adults and $20 for concession card holders, students and QUT staff.
Assessment appointment including all consultations, feedback sessions and a comprehensive report: $250 for adults and $150 for concession card holders, students and QUT staff.
