access to information

QUT recognises the importance of accountability and responsibility in the performance of its functions and activities. To support this, the University is committed to providing access to as much of its information as possible, provided such access is compliant with relevant legislation and in the public interest. As a statutory authority, QUT operates two legislative schemes for requests to information. The two schemes are: access to an individual’s own personal information (Information Privacy) and access to information which is not an individual’s own personal information (Right to Information).

In order to fulfil its activities, QUT collects and holds a great deal of personal information about its students, staff and other clients and community members. QUT is committed to protecting the privacy of this personal information, and ensuring that it is properly secured and managed in accordance with the requirements of the Queensland Government’s Information Privacy Act 2009.

Equity Services coordinates and supports a range of services for staff and students including an equity training and development program; disability services; equal opportunity and employment strategies; staff networks; and financial assistance for students.

Students with a disability are encouraged to contact Disability Services at the earliest possible time, to meet staff, learn about the services available to them and structure a service plan to meet their specific needs.

QUT is committed to providing a harmonious, fair and just working and learning environment. To ensure this, staff and students have access to processes that allow for grievances, disputes, problems and complaints to be resolved appropriately.
