9 million downloads: ePrints sprints to the lead in research sharing
QUT's open access repository, QUT ePrints, has been ranked as the top repository in Australia and 21st in the world in the latest biannual Ranking Web of Repositories "Webometrics".
Researchers upload full-text version of their research outputs and publications to QUT ePrints in order to share them with the world - academics, students and the public alike.
"ePrints ensures that valuable research is available to other researchers who do not have access to paid journal subscriptions," QUT library services director Judy Stokker said.
"The benefit for researchers is that increased access maximises the citation rate and the impact of their research.
"QUT was the first institution in the world to introduce an open access mandate whereby researchers are required to upload complete versions of their research outputs."
More than nine million downloads have been made of the 24,000 full-text research publications deposited on ePrints since its inception in 2003.
The ranking is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group based at a public research institute in Spain.
