QUT degree unlocks commercial potential of research
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is set to become the sole provider of a postgraduate degree that helps researchers and research managers unlock the commercial potential of their work.
In mid-2012, QUT will become the only university to offer the Master of Research Management and Commercialisation.
QUT Dean of Research and Research Training Professor Paul Burnett said the postgraduate degree would train future leaders in research and commercialisation.
"For some time now, we have recognised a significant need for a formal postgraduate award which provides training in best practice management skills and commercialisation to the research sectors," he said.
"It is the only masters degree in Australia which offers recognised qualifications in both research management and commercialisation.
"With content that is provided fully online and is relevant to all technical disciplines, we believe that this will become the postgraduate degree of choice for all professional research managers/administrators, researchers and innovators wanting to further their careers."

The postgraduate degree will be suitable for administration professionals in research organisations, academic researchers, entrepreneurs and professionals from public and private R&D organisations.
The course will equip people with skills and knowledge in research commercialisation, research project management, entrepreneurship and leadership.
Larissa Melanie is among students enrolled in the predecessor course, which has been offered through the Australian Technology Network's virtual graduate school, e-Grad School Australia.
Ms Melanie, a QUT Learning and Teaching Unit project manager, said the course had already boosted her career, while the online degree allowed her to manage work and study.
"It provides valuable insights for my work," she said.
"The transference of knowledge and applicability of the course directly into my workplace speaks loudly of the relevance and currency of the course.
"The flexibility of the online delivery fits well with achieving realistic work/life/study balance."
