QUT researchers have been awarded $7.11 million in Australian Research Council (ARC) funding, announced today.
Four grants have come via the ARC's Future Fellowships scheme, which funds research that will deliver significant economic, environmental, social, health or cultural benefits to Australia.
Among the recipients of funding under this scheme is Professor Selena Bartlett from the Faculty of Science and Technology who will examine factors in the development of addictive behaviours, thanks to a $931,168 grant.
Dr Travis Klein from the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering has been awarded $639,288 to look at cost-effective tissue fabrication technologies to engineer cartilage, which could benefit the 1.6 million Australians who suffer from osteoarthritis.

Ten grants, each worth $375,000, were also awarded to QUT researchers under the ARC's Discovery Early Career Researcher Award scheme. The scheme supports outstanding Australian and international early-career researchers to conduct their research in Australia.
Among the recipients of these grants is Dr Erica Hateley from the Faculty of Education who will look at the social values of Australian children's book awards, and how they affect who wins and loses.
Dr Luis Mejias Alvarez from the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering has received funding to research novel concepts for improving safety in aircraft emergency situations.
Dr Scott Read from the School of Optometry will look at environmental factors contributing to short sightedness.
