As part of Philanthropy Week celebrations, Queensland Community Foundation (QCF) has honoured QUT Chancellor Tim Fairfax AC as 2018 Community Philanthropist of the Year.

Mr Fairfax, QUT Chancellor since 2012, was recognised by QCF as “an outstanding philanthropist with a proven record of exceptional financial generosity and volunteer leadership to Queensland based non-profit organisations”.

Mr Fairfax and his wife Gina set up the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation 10 years ago to support rural, regional, and remote communities in Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Over the past decade, the Foundation has given $31 million to arts, community, and education initiatives, with a focus on encouraging diversity, supporting leadership, and strengthening the community sector through collaboration between private and public sectors.

In addition to his role as Chairman of the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation, Mr Fairfax is Chair of the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation, Director of the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, President of the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation, and Deputy Chairman of the National Gallery of Australia Council.

In line with his passion for philanthropy Mr Fairfax is an advocate for education, and sponsors the Tim Fairfax AC Learning Potential Fund Scholarships at QUT, which enable disadvantaged and low-income students to study an undergraduate degree.

He is also Patron of the Australian Medical Association of Queensland (AMAQ) Foundation, a member of the National Portrait Gallery Foundation, and volunteers for Isolated Students Education and the Flying Arts Alliance.

Mr Fairfax was one of five iconic Queenslanders honoured at the QCF Philanthropy Week awards.

QCF Philanthropy Week celebrates raising awareness of philanthropy in Queensland, honours community members and organisations making outstanding philanthropic contributions, and encourages support for charities and community organisations operating throughout Queensland.
