- Distinguished Professor James Dale’s work to create genetically modified, Vitamin A-enriched bananas continued to make headlines globally including Techly, NZ Herald, Yahoo! News UK, Food & Beverage, Axios, Free Republic, Innovation Toronto, and the NewsWeek story made the front page of Reddit. It also ran locally in Campus Morning Mail, Daily News, Australian Geographic, MyExpress, Australian Food News, and across the APN newspaper and Macquarie radio networks. The IFL Science website also published the research, with more than 28,000 shares, 17,000 likes and 1400 comments. The IFL Science Facebook post had more than 3600 shares.
- QUT research into using 3D printers to help breast cancer survivors ran on 7 News across the country.
- Professor Matthew Rimmer story about net neutrality and freedom of speech ran on ABC News Online, ABC News 24, IT Wire, also featured in Technology Decisions.
- Professor Gerard Ledwich spoke with 9 News about renewable energy and electricity prices.
- The Courier-Mail’s Des Houghton interviewed living art legend and alumnus William Robinson about his new exhibition at the William Robinson Gallery in Old Government House at QUT.
- Music Love and the Sydney Morning Herald wrote about a fascinating concert tribute to the art of William Robinson and Margaret Olley at Old Government House, which was also mentioned on ABC Radio Brisbane.
- Professor Gordon Wyeth spoke with ABC PM about the future of drones ahead of the first-ever World of Drones Congress in Brisbane. The story also ran across ABC networks including social media @abcnews.
- Professor Susan Walker and Adjunct Professor Donna Berthelsen study about girls performing better than boys in early literacy and maths ran in Education Review and Teacher Magazine. Prof Walker was on ABC Radio Kimberley talking about parents who entertain their kids with video games.
- The Fairfax network including the Brisbane Times ran a story on the increase in endometrial cancer cases, which quoted Associate Professor Pamela Pollock, and highlighted new research involving Professor Monika Janda (pictured) trialling non-surgical treatment options.
- The Courier-Mail spoke to John Willsteed for a national story on Brisbane City Council naming a park after Saints guitarist Ed Kuepper. He also spoke to ABC Brisbane.
- Stage Milk named QUT in its top five drama schools in Australia.
- Professor Lisa Nissen told ABC News that drugging small children to help them sleep on long-haul flights can be a risky business.
- The Courier-Mail’s QConfidential wrote about gymnast and QUT robotics student Robert Patterson who will take on Australian Ninja Warrior’s brutal obstacle course tonight on Channel 9.
- A feature in The Australian on school disability funding quoted Associate Professor Linda Graham who said the new national funding system was better than existing state funding methods.
- Dr Mandy Lupton told the ABC’s PM program traditional semesters often didn’t suit online students who were trying to balance study and work.
- Associate Professor Gary Mortimer was on 9 News regarding a new grocery shopping app, the Daily Mail on bulk buying, an ABC Brisbane panel about retailing, ABC Mid North Coast about Woolworths phasing out single-use bags, The Courier Mail and Adelaide’s FiveAA about supermarket egg wars, and 7 News (scroll down for story) about store loyalty rewards.
- The AU Review blog named the La Boite-QUT Creative Industries collaboration for Blackrock as one of seven theatre productions across Australia audiences shouldn’t miss.
- Amusement academic Malcolm Burt explained why humans love extreme thrills on Channel Ten/11’s Totally Wild program.
- Dr Sebastien Demmel’s tailgating research continued to make the news, this time in the Sunshine Coast Daily, Adelaide Advertiser and Northside Chronicle.
- Campus Morning Mail and The Australian’s High Wired reported QUT as being among top Australian universities generating income from consultancies, contracts and collaborations.
- The Australian also congratulated QUT and the four other Australian universities announced as finalists in the HEA’s inaugural Global Teaching Excellence Award.
- AdNews, Mumbrella, Campaign Brief Australia, Campus Morning Mail and B&T reported on QUT’s new ad campaign featuring business and IT graduate Sam Senior.
- The Content Division blog rated QUT CEA’s The Coterie as one of Brisbane’s best co-working spaces.
