Enabling real world solutions

Philanthropy helps make our leading research possible, allowing us to address problems in health, society and the environment.

Our researchers draw on the generosity of foundations, individuals and community organisations to support projects that will have major benefits for our society, now and into the future.

Our projects range from sustainable development and greenhouse gas emissions, to better diagnostics for prostate cancer, and programs aimed at reducing tragedies on Australian roads.  Browse our research pages or contact us to find out if QUT is undertaking research in an area or of interest to you.

IHBI

IHBI

The Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) is one of our major initiatives. IHBI is a collaborative institute devoted to improving the health of individuals through research innovation, located at our Kelvin Grove campus. All gifts to IHBI allow important health research and development to continue.

The Samford Environmental Research Facility (SERF)

This 51-hectare property was bequeathed from the estate of renowned entomologist Dr EN ('Patricia') Marks.

Students studying biology through to the design of environmentally sustainable systems visit the research facility in the Samford Valley to learn from its unique environment.

The site serves as a 'supersite' for the national Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network to track greenhouse gas emissions and the impact of urbanisation.

QUT Body Bequest Program

The gift of your body could make a real difference to medical innovation.

To be able to examine a real human body is a privilege, and the ultimate gift that someone can give to science and medicine. We need support to continue this essential surgical training and teaching.

Our partnership with the Brisbane Airport Corporation grew from a single collaborative project in 1999. Today we continue to collaborate on a diverse range of projects involving world-class research in airport innovation.

'Reach for the Skies' (PDF file, 2025.01 KB) tells the story of the first ten years of our highly successful partnership.

The Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies (ACPNS)

As part of QUT Business School, the ACPNS brings together academics and research students with expertise in philanthropy, nonprofit organisations, and the social economy.

The centre has benefited from the support of donors including the Atlantic Philanthropies, who established grants for a centre chair, and conferences on charity law reform and research philanthropy by high-net-worth individuals.
